Ben grew up on a cattle station near Gloucester, NSW and attended a Sydney boarding school. After school Ben studied Law and Cultural and Critical Theory at Macquarie University, graduating in 2000. He went on to do an MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management at UNSW.
Ben got into computer programming during his university years while working part time at American market research giant Nielsen. While studying Ben also did some radio advertising work for a friend's family business.
After graduation, Ben followed his programming interest and ended up working in London and Edinburgh at the height of the dotcom boom on an internet startup and then fund management and finance. Returning to Australia Ben worked at the ABC in Ultimo. Developing the Tripple J Hottest 100 web app was a highlight, as was working with the online news division as a project manager overseeing the development and introduction of a new Web publising system.
While at the ABC Ben answered an internal ad for voiceover artists and was successful in his audition. However, his boss at the time wouldn't let him do any of this work, even though it was out of hours. Grrr.
Since 2006 Ben has been self-employed as an IT consultant and has had a go at a few internet startups.
The mighty Sydney Swans are one of Ben's key interests and he has held a season ticket since 2002. Ben is married with one son.
